Do Animals believe in God?

Recently I have been reading books on Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and other great philosophers who have written based on their knowledge of Vedas. Swami Vivekananda says that if you have to understand the world, you need to generalize. That is true. If you look into how a living body is made, we all have the same structure. We have a wrist, so do dogs, cows, cats, elephants, lions and reptiles and birds. Then we have the elbow, same is true for the above animals, then the shoulder…. Same for the animals mentioned. Of course, we do not have tails… but understand I am just generalizing. Two eyes, two legs, similar nose, ears etc. etc.

There are differences too… those differences are only on the shape, design, degree of use etc… but not concept. Conceptually, animals and humans are same, except that it does not deceive or cheat or lie.

Now, to my main concern, do the animals too believe in God? Do they pray? When not reading on Swami Vivekananda or Gandhi, I watch Animal Planet. According to studies, animals have feelings, affection and almost all emotions that we people have. I was shocked when I saw the movie – ‘March of the Penguins’ (I know, they did not show this on Animal Planet). But, if they have similar emotions, do they also believe in God? Most of us pray (generalization) for some selfish purpose be it loving spouse, healthy child, safe living, comforts etc. I am sure animals too want them. Animals too protect their children, expect safe living etc. and so won’t they have to ask that from somebody? As I child, I used to throw stones at dogs and they would run to the house where they feel safe and hide until the danger (me and my friends) walks away. So, when the dog hides, will it not pray so that we do not find it or hurt it? Do they understand the concept of God? Do they not understand the concept of God? It seems animals can see more than what humans can see. Do you think they would have already seen God? Is it true that the dog howls when it sees ‘Yama dharma raja’? Can it see them? Or does it know that there is no God and that is the reason it does not pray?

Animals do not even understand the concept of a mirror, how are they going to think of a higher power?

I think they do. All creatures animals and humans alike were created for one purpose to worship God, even plants do but this is part of my Islamic religion and belief so some may question whether plants and animals have any idea whats going on around them. Unfortunatley some people have forgotton their religion but unlike humans, plants and animals never forget their purpose in life. The trees sway in worship and animals have their own ways aswell, for example a friend of mine told me her pet cat would sit in with the family when they are worshipping. There are many other ways but i can't tell cos i havn't a pet and you can't always follow them to tell what they're up to!

Ps, yes we are supposed to show animal kindness and i was silly aswell when i was growing up, so the animals i have hurt, i repent for and only hope God will forgive me for it. But now that i have learnt from my mistakes, kids should be taught to respect animals from a young age, else they could end up making the same mistakes.

i think the concept of beliefs is not pertinent to animals

Of course they do worship God .Even better than us ! even plants ,what ever God has created worships him.
I think they know God better than us . maybe that is why they are so innocent and loyal and full of love .
I have two dogs and they love to sleep under a frame that we have on the wall and on the frame is written the name of God in Arabic "ALLAH "and when i listen to quran at home they are soooooo calm and they listen to that with me and i am sure they understand that .

no of course they don't...science has shown that animals can't do abstract thinking which is one of four main key mental ingredients that distinguish the brains of human beings' from those of animals.

It's the animal in human beings that believes in God.

Intellectually, we have left belief in metaphysics decades ago, because modern philosophy denies the existence of Gods.

But emotionally, we have a primitive need, that we can't satisfy with reasonable arguments. We must believe that someone is protecting us...

This need is our way of surviving. Don't animals - maybe only unconsciously -want to survive too?

My recent art project deals with this problem. I'm showing cows having various religious experiences in "Do animals believe in God?"

Take a look, if you want!

Modern philosophy and science do not deny God. In fact - quite the opposite. Logical thinking shows us that the universe is intelligently designed by a powerful being - God.

However, concerning animals - I don't think they believe or disbelieve - they've never learned about God to accept or dismiss the claim.

So who knows? Maybe they do believe in God and know they were created - after all, some animals know when other animals are dead but we'll probably never find out unless God tells us.

Farewell.

So why the mass slaughter of animals for
Our pleasure? Why do we continue to eat such great deals of meats?

A humans mind is far to tame and self induldged. What makes the human being so different to be able to look upto a god? Of course as we know animals brains are far less advance to be able to understand god and if all living creatures are supposed to worship god then why do animals get away with it? My point being that if someone doesn't worship god does that mean that they are going to 'hell'? If someone doesn't believe in god does that make them bad?

God is all powerful. you are not.

All of us who think quite conceitedly how smart and advanced we humans are need to watch the video I just saw on NOVA about animal minds. Learning about the bottle nosed dolphin, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't closer to God than any of us. They are not as conceited as we are.

Animals don't have a conscience, in other words they don't feel guilty for anything they do.such as killing their own mother, babies ect. They don't have sin. Because they don't have a soul, all of the things they do is instinct that God made them with. We on the other hand don't have instincts we learn from our parents and other people. But I do believe that animals know there is a higher power than them. That's us. God gave the human the right to rule over the earth and all the animals. Obviously animals obey us. So they are submissive to us. That means they know there's a higher power. But they don't question it like us humans, they just know it and they are fine with it. They don't complicate things more than they have to.
